Players and officials of the Italian football, were discussing about shutting down some leagues after the disaster occurred on Sunday when a police officer shot a Lazio fan on a highway rest stop.

The police officer shot a Lazio fan named Gabriel Sandri who was just 26 year-old, a disc jockey from Rome. Several tests practiced to the gun used in the incident indicated it was not accidentally discharged as the officer declared. Supposedly everything happened when Sandri was sitting on a car in a highway rest stop in Tuscany where he was shot in the neck.

Police reports stated they had intervened when a fight between Sandri's group Lazio fans headed to see their club play at Inter Milan and a group of Juventus fans encountered as they also travel north to see their team play. After the tragedy took place a group of fans attacked some police stations.

Some suspects had been already arrested, 4 in Rome, 5 in Taranto, 6 in Milan and 7 in Bergramo. More arrests are expected and the prosecutors in Rome said they are planning on terrorism charges to the Rome suspects.

The Inter-Lazio and AS Roma-Cagliari games Sunday were postponed. The league announced Tuesday both games are rescheduled for December 5th. Another match Sunday between Atalanta and AC Milan was suspended after seven minutes when fans in Bergamo attempted to break through a barrier and force their way onto the field. No announcements on rescheduling that game have been released.

"This morning I finally read the right word: terrorism. What happened Sunday is civil war," said Italy team manager Luigi Riva, the Azzurri's all-time leading scorer with 35 goals. "We've got to stop all this before we think about playing," Riva said. "I would stop the league right away, even for a year, if it would defeat this terrorism."

Italian football federation president Giancarlo Abete reiterated Tuesday that there were no plans to stop the Serie A.

"We were clear yesterday. We decided unanimously to stop the leagues scheduled to play this weekend and call a federation meeting for Thursday to hear the (club presidents) and evaluate the measures," Abete was quoted as saying by the ANSA news agency. "As far as we're concerned, games will be played regularly Nov. 25," Abete added.
